While it may seem strange
to some, I find a hard run a great way to relax after a day at work. First attracted to the sport because it allowed me to
make up for lack of athletic ability with determination, I now enjoy running for the energy it provides. When I decided to
seek a seat on the council, I knew personal sacrifices would be involved. An aspect of my life I hoped to avoid giving up
was the one thing keeping me relatively healthy: running. Brainstorming ways to increase my own efficiency through multitasking,
the SB4g District Tour was born. Elected
officials, particularly those representing specific districts, must be acutely familiar with the neighborhoods they represent.
While I travel some streets in District Four daily, there are admittedly some quiet residential paths I have never
traversed. Over the coming year, I want to get to know every corner of the district -- from State Road 23 to the smallest
cul-de-sac. And why just drive by in a car when I can view it all on foot? By the fall of 2011, I plan to run down every residential block in South Bend's fourth district.
Keep an eye out for me exploring your neighborhood in one of my bright green SB4g shirts. If you see me trudging along
and have a question, please do not hesitate to flag me down (I am usually happy for any excuse to stop and catch my breath)!
Each block of our city has unique assets and challenges, and I cannot wait to discover what makes your neighborhood special
and how it can be improved.
